Behind the build
Meet Sylo, the AI receptionist that answers when you can't
We built Sylo for a moment every owner knows too well. The phone rings. Your hands are full. The person calling has a question you could answer in ten seconds, but you can't take the call, so it rolls to voicemail. When you call back an hour later, they've already booked with someone else.
Sylo is an AI receptionist for small businesses. It answers your business line, your texts, and the chat on your website, around the clock, and it sounds like someone who actually works at your business. In a real sense, it does: you teach it your services, your prices, your hours, and your rules, and then it gets to work.
What it actually does
It answers every call, at any hour. Two in the afternoon on your busiest Saturday, or ten at night when you're closed. Callers get a real conversation, not a menu tree and not a voicemail greeting.
It knows your business. During onboarding you point Sylo at your website or your documents, or simply talk to it, and it learns what you offer, what things cost, and when you're open. When a caller asks, it answers from what you taught it.
It books real appointments. Sylo books against your actual calendar, confirms the details with the caller before committing, and sends a confirmation text afterward. Double bookings are impossible by design.
It takes orders and messages. A restaurant can take a pickup order over the phone. A salon can capture a consultation request. And when something needs your judgment, Sylo takes a clear, complete message and puts it in your inbox with the caller's name and callback number attached.
It remembers your customers. Returning callers are greeted by name. New callers are asked for theirs, once, along with the best number to reach them back.
It works where your customers are. The same receptionist answers your phone line, replies to texts on your business number, and handles the chat on your website. One brain, one set of knowledge, every channel.
Just as important: what it won't do
Sylo does not guess. If a caller asks something you haven't taught it, it says so plainly and takes a message instead of inventing an answer. We think a receptionist that occasionally makes things up is worse than no receptionist at all, so we built the product to refuse before it fabricates.
And it knows when a call needs you. A caller who asks for a person, a situation that sounds urgent, a question with real stakes: in those moments Sylo steps aside. It can transfer the live call straight to your phone, or capture everything and notify you immediately so you can respond fast. The goal was never to keep humans out of the loop. It's to make sure the loop starts at all.
Who it's for
The businesses we built Sylo for share one trait: the person who answers the phone is also the person doing the work. Restaurants where the phone rings hardest exactly when the kitchen is slammed. Salons where three stylists share a front desk that nobody is sitting at. Plumbers, electricians, and cleaners who physically can't pick up because they're on a ladder or under a sink.
If your voicemail greeting is currently doing the job of a receptionist, Sylo was built for you.
Where things stand
We're honest about being early. Sylo is live, answering real calls, and we're onboarding businesses steadily through early access. If you're curious how it would handle your phone line, we'd love to show you. And if you have a question this post didn't answer, write to info@wayhow.ai. We read everything.
