Teaching Sylo

Teaching Sylo your business

Sylo answers from the knowledge you give it, in the tone you set, and nothing else. This page covers how to teach it well.

Where knowledge lives

Open Knowledge in your dashboard. You'll find your FAQs, your services and prices, your hours, and (for restaurants) your menu. Add to it any time; Sylo uses changes within minutes, no retraining and no waiting.

What good knowledge looks like

Short, specific entries beat long ones. One question, one answer. "How much is a men's cut?" answered in a sentence will be found and spoken accurately. A page-long paragraph that covers six topics at once is harder to retrieve, and callers may hear a deflection even though the fact is in there somewhere.

If you've pasted in longer content, use the Optimize button in Knowledge. It splits multi topic entries into focused ones so every fact is findable.

Sylo does not guess

If a caller asks something you haven't taught it, Sylo says so plainly and takes a message instead of inventing an answer. This is deliberate. A receptionist that occasionally makes things up is worse than no receptionist at all. If you notice Sylo deflecting on something it should know, the fix is almost always a knowledge entry: add the fact, and it will answer next time.

Rules and boundaries

You can set rules Sylo always follows: things it must never say, topics that always go to you, and how it should escalate. Sylo also holds some lines on its own: it identifies itself as an AI when asked, and it never gives medical, legal, or financial advice. Those questions get a polite hand off to you.

Your voice and tone

Under your assistant's settings you choose the voice callers hear and the personality it carries. It answers with your business name, in your style. The goal is that it sounds like someone who works at your business, because as far as your customers are concerned, it does.
